Pura Vida Retreat & Spa
This beautiful retreat center is perfectly equipped for hot yoga, with a spacious heated yoga room overlooking the mountainside. You can spot butterflies, hummingbirds, parrots, and more without even leaving the resort. You'll also be able to enjoy an outdoor hot tub, a salt-water swimming pool, fully equipped yoga rooms for stretching and meditation, and plenty of hammocks for napping.
As part of this 8 day, 7 night retreat, you will get...
Hot Yoga Classes
We start and end every day with yoga class. All the classes are optional - you're on vacation! Most participants like to take class once a day, but you may practice as much or as little as you like. Most classes will be in the traditional Bikram yoga style - 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises done in a heated room. We will also offer a posture clinic with Juliana to tune up your practice, guided and un-guided meditation sessions daily, and perhaps a couple of other styles such as Yin Yoga or Yoga Nidra. (Exact schedule TBD - requests are welcome!)
Your retreat price includes three delicious buffet meals a day, prepared by the resort staff. The meals are delicious and nutritious, with options for vegetarians and omnivores alike, and the staff can easily accommodate any dietary restrictions. Every breakfast includes fresh fruit, homemade breads and spreads, and Costa Rican coffee. Every lunch and dinner includes homemade soup, fresh salads, vegetables, vegetarian protein, a meat (fish or chicken), and dessert. Fresh fruits and teas are always available, and alcoholic beverages are available for purchase.
Massage & Spa Treatments
(additional costs apply)
Treat yourself to at least ONE spa treatment or massage while you are in Costa Rica! Pura Vida has assembled a team of incredibly gifted body-workers and therapists whose services will be available to you during the week. Options include hot stone massage, deep tissue massage, Thai massage, Swedish massage, relexology, Reiki, myofascial release, Ayurvedic consultations, aquatic body work (Watsu), facials, body scrubs, and more!
(Prices range from approximately $100 - $160 per session.)
Day-Trips and Excursions
These were the highlight of the trip for many of our students last year! Try something exciting, like zip-lining through the cloud forest or white water rafting through the jungle, or something more low-key, like a trip to the nature park or hot springs. (Costs range from $50 - $110 per excursion.)
Pura Vida is located in Costa Rica's central valley, just outside the capital city of San Jose and about 30 minutes from the airport. A driver from the resort will greet you at the airport when you arrive and bring you back when you return. (We will collect your flight information after booking.) Be sure your passport is up to date!
Payment Plan Options:
Can't pay in full? No problem! Sign up by January 3rd, 2018 and pay for your trip in 11 monthly installments. (See rates below.)
Time Until Price Increases:
Choose your favorite type of room to fit your style and budget! All rooms can be configured for single occupancy (one king size bed) or double occupancy (two twin beds or one king bed). Luxury suites are also available - contact us for availability at email@example.com.
These deluxe style rooms feature private balconies with gorgeous views. Approximately 250 square feet, these rooms are great for single occupancy, but spacious enough for a comfortable roommate set up. Includes private bath and coffee maker.
These hybrid tent-bungalows are the perfect accommodation for nature lovers. Spacious six-sided tents contain the same comfortable beds as other rooms, electricity, space to store clothes, and of course, plenty of fresh air. Shared bathroom and shower facilities are steps away in the nearby bathhouse.
When should I plan to arrive and depart from Costa Rica?
You can arrive anytime during the day on Saturday November 3rd and depart anytime on Saturday November 10th. If you need to arrive or depart slightly earlier or later (depending on flights and travel plans), just check with us and we will see if your room is available for an extra night!
Are flights included in the retreat price?
Flights are not included. We will keep an eye on prices and let you know when good deals are available!
Is yoga experience required?
No yoga experience is required! Yoga beginners are welcome on this trip, and all yoga classes are optional.
What's the weather like?
In November, we are just at the end of the rainy season. Expect a mix of clouds, sunshine, and afternoon rain showers. Temperatures usually are in the 70s / 80s during the day and in the 50s / 60s at night. Last year, it was cloudy on the first day and clear by the end of the week, with enough sunshine to sit out at the pool all afternoon.
Will we have internet?
Free Wi-Fi is available in certain areas of the resort. You'll get the best signal in the dining hall and the wellness center. Many rooms do not have Wi-Fi (which is a major benefit, in our opinion!) There is also a telephone and desktop computer in the office which are available for guests to use.
Can I drink alcohol and eat meat on this trip?
Yes! There is wine and beer available at the restaurant bar, and meat options are served at every meal. We do encourage you to consume in moderation on this trip - one of the benefits of this retreat is that you return home in better health than when you left!
What do I need to pack?
All the yoga gear is provided by the resort, so you do not need to bring a yoga mat or towel! Bring comfy clothes for lounging, plenty of yoga outfits (we usually wash them by hand and dry them on the balcony), walking shoes for excursions, sunglasses, a light raincoat, sunscreen, bug spray, and your passport! Laundry services are also available at the resort for $8 / bag.
Do I need to change money or learn Spanish?
Costa Rica is extremely welcoming to North American tourists! Most of the places that we will visit take American dollars and there is always somebody who speaks English. Bring small bills (ones and fives) if you want to go shopping - larger bills can be difficult to change.
